In January 2025, Cat Burford, The Molar Explorer, became the 13th woman to ski 708 miles solo and unsupported to the South Pole, fulfilling a childhood dream first sparked by her school geography teacher, Allyson Taylor.
With a lifelong love of adventure, Cat’s expeditions have taken her to deserts, mountains and remote corners of the globe, but she has always been drawn to the magic of the Polar regions.

Cat is passionate about using adventurous journeys to inspire, challenge stereotypes, and highlight both the urgent realities of climate change and the hidden barriers that still exist for women in polar exploration.
Looking ahead to 2026, Cat is heading an all-female team on a Northwest traverse of Svalbard, creating a film in the process. This expedition seeks to redefine the traditional narrative of polar adventure. Through storytelling and researching the history of women in the polar world, the team will shine a light on both the progress made and the barriers that remain, while collaborating with scientists to highlight the reality of climate change in one of the fastest-warming places on Earth.
Alongside her expeditions, Cat works as a dentist in Cornwall, teaches expedition dentistry for World Extreme Medicine, and volunteers to provide dental care and training in remote communities worldwide.
